Atlas Shrugged didnt change my philosophy and me as a person. I always had the basic fundamental principles but AS and Objectivism defined my philosophy and has been a rational defender of my principles. When I read Atlas Shrugged I was amazed for many reasons. The most important one is that I could identify myself with the many charactars struggling for hapiness and the achievment of life.

I think after I read this, i had to question my party affiliation. I always considered myself to be conservative. In the current realm of politics and a do nothing congress except for more regulations, i have shifted my political ideology. The liberatarian party seems like a better fit for my political beliefs. I can't stand watching the mainstream media anymore. The prophecy coming true.

I just recently completed Atlas Shrugged and even though it was written over 50 years, the concepts adressed hold true today. Looking at the Occupy Wall Street Movement, and the many freeloaders out there looking for a handout and to redistribute the wealth reminds me of how the Company in the book paid employees based on need rather than on performance. The Comapny obviously collapsed.

It has made me think about the power that a government-controlled organisation can have over the people that depend on it and how, when that organisation starts to fall apart, there really isn't much that anyone can do. Except wait for some great intellect to stand up, take over the reigns and rebuild what is fractured and failing.

It is Greek Myth," not Greek Mythology, which means the study of Greek Myth. The book is my bible, and has been for forty years. I introduce it to as many as I can.

Happiness has been expunged from our society with critics that cry monotonously of the flaws of simple creation. We have demanded intricacy and provocation from every thought to leave the mind. They have cried that simple things do not establish true joy. These critics claim that you must appease the cold code of a successful stereotype to find happiness. Lose the types, and look inside yourself.

The ability and opportunity to act is, for me, one of the greatest sources of happiness. Knowing that you can do something about your life no matter how bad or unfortunate it has been creates a sense of hope. The belief in the resilience of the human spirit has always been beautifully featured in Ayn Rand's novels, especially in Atlas Shrugged.

One of the most striking things to me is the contrasts between the relationship between Dagny and Rearden and the relationship between Rearden and Lillian. Lillian's sole purpose of sustaining the marriage between her and Henry was because she felt as if she had power over Henry's emotional well being and often utilized this power to make Rearden feel guilty of some trespass he never committed

If you think the only choices for a philosophy of life are between altruism and selfishness, then I pity you.
